Supplementation with vitamin K may improve vascular health in postmenopausal women Original paper

In this post hoc analysis of a clinical trial in 165 women with low vitamin K levels, daily supplementation with vitamin K2 reduced blood pressure and vascular stiffness, compared to a placebo, in postmenopausal women only.

This Study Summary was published on June 10, 2025.

The study

Supplementation with 180 micrograms of vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7) for 1 year reduced the progression of arterial stiffness and reduced blood pressure in 87 postmenopausal participants; there were no improvements in blood pressure or arterial stiffness in premenopausal or perimenopausal participants.

Although all postmenopausal participants benefited from vitamin K2 supplementation, the greatest reductions in arterial stiffness and blood pressure were observed in postmenopausal participants with high arterial stiffness at baseline.
