In this 14-day randomized controlled trial, supplementing with hydrogen-rich jelly was no better than a placebo jelly for improving dental health metrics or inflammatory biomarkers in 20 participants with gingivitis.

The study

The participants ingested 30 grams of jelly 3 times daily after meals. The hydrogen-rich jelly contained 40 parts per million of hydrogen gas.

The outcomes included bleeding on probing, pocket probing depth, periodontal inflammation, total antioxidant capacity, interleukin 6, TNF-alpha, interleukin 10, and interleukin 1-beta.

The study was funded by the manufacturer of the hydrogen-rich jelly.
