The participants took capsules that contained either 500 milligrams of yarrow extract or a placebo daily.

Yarrow extract reduced (improved) AST (–23% ), ALT (–15%), LDL cholesterol (–18 mg/dL), total cholesterol (–18 mg/dL), and triglycerides (–14 mg/dL). These changes were statistically significant when compared with the placebo.

The preregistered primary outcomes were inflammatory biomarkers. Although a primary outcome was not specified in the published paper, the outcome used to estimate the required sample size was AST.
