This Study Summary was published on March 27, 2025.

The study

All of the trials were conducted in Iran. The participants were given 3 to 10 milligrams of Shirazi thyme (Zataria multiflora) per kilogram of body weight per day for 2 months.

Four of 4 respiratory symptom outcomes improved: cough, day wheezing, night wheezing, and chest wheezing (very low certainty of evidence). Additionally, 4 of 4 pulmonary function outcomes improved (e.g., forced vital capacity; the certainty of evidence was low for 3 outcomes and moderate for 1 outcome).
