The study

The meta-analysis included 9 randomized controlled trials and 1 experimental (nonrandomized) trial. Most of the trials recruited men and women with no known health conditions. The intervention was given as stevia or stevia leaf powder in 5 trials and as steviol glycosides in the other 5 trials. Stevia was primarily taken orally (9 trials), with the daily doses ranging from 15 to 3,000 milligrams. The comparators included water, sucrose, no intervention, and a placebo. Appetite markers were measured in either the short term (1–3 hours after the intervention; 8 trials) or over a 12-week period (2 trials).
