The study

The participants (average ages of 18–47) included adults with overweight/obesity, without known health conditions, and with metabolic abnormalities, as well as elite junior athletes. The interventions consisted of açaí pulp (100–200 grams per day) or açaí juice (100–650 milliliters per day). Two trials compared açaí to a placebo, and 6 trials used preintervention/postintervention comparisons within the same participants. The intervention duration ranged from 4 to 12 weeks.

Supplemental açaí was associated with a slight reduction in total lipids of 9.8 mg/dL (2 trials, low certainty). In analyses of only randomized controlled trials, açaí had no effect on any of the outcomes.

The risk of bias was high in 3 trials and unclear in 5 trials.
