This Study Summary was published on April 4, 2025.
The study
32 children (average age of 13–14; 30 girls, 2 boys; average BMI of 19–20) were recruited, of whom 24 were judged to have severe acute malnutrition or be undernourished based on a physical examination.
The primary outcome was the lupus symptom score. The secondary outcomes were the T-lymphocyte profile and 7 inflammatory cytokines (e.g., interleukin 4).
Compared to a placebo, interleukin 4 was worsened (increased) and interleukin 17A was improved (decreased) with black seed oil.
