The study
The participants in the intervention group took 1.66 grams of L-arginine and 500 mg of liposomal (highly bioavailable) vitamin C twice daily for 4 weeks.
The researchers assessed COPD-related symptoms, ability to perform activities of daily living, and lung function with validated questionnaires and clinical tests. Compared to a placebo, supplementation with L-arginine and vitamin C improved self-reported shortness of breath, quality of life, and ability to perform activities of daily living. There were no differences in the 6-minute walk test or vital capacity lung test between the intervention group and the control group.
