Creatine monohydrate may improve endothelial function in sedentary older adults Original paper
In this 4-week randomized crossover study in 12 sedentary older men and women with no known health conditions, taking creatine improved markers of macrovascular and microvascular endothelial function.
This Study Summary was published on April 24, 2025.
The study
The participants took either creatine monohydrate (20 grams daily for 5 days, followed by 5 grams daily for 23 days) or a placebo. After a 4-week washout period, they switched to the other intervention and repeated the experiment.
Creatine increased (improved) flow-mediated dilation and microvascular reperfusion rate, compared with the placebo. There were no differences between groups in other outcomes, including pulse wave velocity, oxidative stress biomarkers, or blood lipids.
At the time that the trial was conducted, one of the authors was a science adviser for Alzchem, a company that markets creatine monohydrate under the Creapure brand name.
