Cystatin C is a biomarker used to assess kidney function. Blood levels of Cystatin C are used to estimate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Cystatin C levels are also used to predict health risks (such as cardiovascular disease risk) and mortality in people with some health conditions, such as chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and liver damage.[1]
