Indoxyl sulfate, which is produced when the body metabolizes L-Tryptophan, is a uremic toxin, i. e., a toxin that is inadequately excreted in people with kidney impairment. It can cause heart and kidney damage in people with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
