Both groups followed a hypocaloric diet. The control group’s diet was based on their usual diet.

There was a greater decrease in body weight (−8.1 kg vs. −3.75 kg/−17.9 lb vs. −8.3 lb) and liver fat in the intervention group than the control group but no difference between the groups for liver fibrosis (the primary outcome).

There were also greater decreases (improvements) in liver enzymes, triglycerides, insulin, and TNF-alpha in the intervention group.
