The participants took a supplement that contained either multiple probiotic strains (4 studies), a single probiotic strain (2 studies), galactooligosaccharides (a prebiotic; 1 study), or an extract of bovine tissue (1 study). The control group took a placebo. The intervention duration ranged from 4 to 24 weeks.
