Does olive leaf extract improve glycemic control? Original paper
In this 24-week randomized controlled trial in 31 participants with type 2 diabetes, olive leaf extract did not improve HbA1c.
This Study Summary was published on March 25, 2025.
The study
The participants, who’d had diabetes for at least 1 year, were not receiving insulin therapy.
They were assigned to take either a supplement containing 1,467 milligrams of olive leaf extract (which contained 110 milligrams of oleuropein and 5 milligrams of hydroxytyrosol) or a placebo daily.
One of the researchers was an expert contributor to the Olive Wellness Institute, which funded the study, and was a paid consultant for Wellgrove Health, which manufactured the supplement.
